Alternative format textbook request
We offer an electronic version of The Bluebook available as an annual subscription. It has the same content of the printed version plus some added features. It is also compatible with screen readers such as JAWS. You can sign up for a free, no-strings-attached trial to the Bluebook Online to try it out here: https://www.
If this subscription will work for your student, we can offer a one-year subscription to the Bluebook Online for free in exchange for the receipt showing proof of purchase of a new Bluebook in print.
To receive an electronic version of The Bluebook suitable for producing an accommodating format, the accessibility officer of the school must mail the student’s original receipt for purchase of a new printed Bluebook or a subscription to the Bluebook Online (www.legalbluebook.com).
A letter meeting these three requirements must be included:
1. The letter must be on letterhead of your school’s accessibility office.
2. The letter must include the following text:
"This electronic text will be used exclusively by [name of student requesting alternative format], a law student at [name of school], who agrees to use all reasonable means to prevent its use by or distribution to anyone else. We agree that the copyright clearance has been granted to us for necessary reformatting to adapt the material to the requirements of this student. Beyond such reformatting, however, this electronic text will not be reproduced without the express written consent of the Columbia Law Review Association, the Harvard Law Review Association, The University of Pennsylvania Law Review and the Yale Law Journal."
3. The letter must be signed by both the student and the school's accessibility officer. We require an original copy of this letter.
On compliance with these terms, we:
1. Will email the digital copy of the Bluebook to the accessibility officer at no charge. Please be sure to indicate a valid email address to which the text should be sent.
2. Will grant the limited copyright clearance indicated above.
Please send us the signed letter and the receipt showing proof of purchase of a new Bluebook. Please contact us here.
Accessibility is a priority for us. We strive to meet accessibility standards, and have been continuously working with our website developers to improve accessibility on the website. The Bluebook website for the most part supports WCAG 2.1 AA standards. We audited the website for accessibility and remediated most of the significant issues. A few small issues remain and we are working to address them. As we pursue this goal, we welcome feedback on the accessibility of the Bluebook website. Please contact us here.
